Main bearing design

Post by skiprat » Fri Sep 10, 2021 3:47 am

Can anybody tell me about the design of the oil spreader groove in the WD1 main bearing?

The Ruston PB/PT has a spiral groove from the oil hole, linking to a circular groove close to the end opposite the flange.

I know that the WD2 has a much simplified open-ended spreader groove along the length of the bearing.

Is the WD1 bearing the same as the Ruston version or did Wolseley's simplify the design when they developed the WD1?
